WALLER COUNTY, TX (Covering Katy News) - While Harris County judges have been getting a great deal of negative attention for letting repeat criminal offenders out of jail to offend again, Waller County is taking a very different approach.
Deeantoine Lewis was sentenced to 50 years in prison for evading arrest with a motor vehicle whi
le out on parole. He didn't just run from the police; he also had a gun. Convicted felons are not allowed to have guns.
So, Lewis is headed back to prison, and if he serves his whole sentence, and is not given parole, he will be 86 years old when he gets out.
"Thank you to the men and women of Waller County who showed up to do their civic duty," said a statement from the Waller County District Attorney's office.
The DA did not waste any time prosecuting Lewis. Lewis was arrested three months ago, and prosecutors have already disposed of his case. In Harris County, trials are being delayed for years as repeat offenders are out on bond and committing more crimes.
