HOUSTON, TX (Covering Katy News) - The Harris County Sheriff's Office is testing bullet resistant windshields in some of its patrol vehicles.
The pilot program allows the HCSO to assess the effectiveness and durability of ballistic glass windshields.
"The ballistic glass windshields will help us to bolster our ability to protect our deputies as they serve and protect our community," said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Gonzalez, alongside representatives of the Harris County Sheriff's Office Foundation, including Franco Valobra, Chairman of the Board of HCSO Foundation, and Katrina Arnim, Executive Director of the HCSO Foundation, gathered at the Harris County Sheriff's Office to make the announcement.
"The HCSO Foundation strives, principally, to help the Harris County Sheriff's Office in providing the safest and most efficient environment for deputies to operate so they can provide the public with safety and a high quality of life in our neighborhoods and in our city," said HCSO Foundation chairman Franco Valobra. "These ballistic windshields will not only protect the deputies but also will allow them the ability to better approach dangerous situations and to resolve them with greater safety and confidence."
The HCSO Foundation supports the Harris County Sheriff's Office by facilitating partnerships and raising funds to provide resources, equipment, and training that enhance public safety efforts. The donation of ballistic glass windshields is another example of their dedication to fostering a safer environment for law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.
