RICHMOND, TX (Covering Katy News) - With 97 percent of the precincts returns counted, Fort Bend County voters have approved Proposition A, the largest ever mobility bond, $712,630,000 to build and repair roads.
There are 70 new roadway projects and over 20 projects that are traffic and pedestrian improvement projects. Projects include FM 2759 from FM 762 to the city of Thompsons. The current asphalt road will connect to the future bridge when the Fort Bend Toll Road is extended over the Brazos River. The bridge will bring a significant amount of traffic to Thompsons, so the FM 2759 project is necessary to take on the higher demand.
There is also funding for improving the streets in the county's oldest subdivisions, some are about 50 years old in places like the Sugar Land area in Precinct 3 and Mission Bend in Precinct 4.
Proposition B, a $153 bond package to build and improve parks, was much closer, with only 2,521 votes separating the two sides, with 52% voting for and 48% voting against the bond. The bond will fund the construction of new parks and improvements to existing facilities.
Some Parks Bond Projects include creating a safe crossover from Freedom Park in Precinct 1 across Westheimer Parkway to George Bush Park in Harris County.
"This is really a quality of life issue, said County Judge K.P. George. The purpose is to make it more efficient for our residents so we can sustain our exponential growth. The voters spoke and showed their strong support for moving the County forward. The approval of the Mobility and Parks Bond is a testament to their vision for the future.”
