The 7,800-acre park is on the far west side of Houston, abutting the Katy area. It has hike and bike trails that stretch from Katy's Fry Road to Highway 6, where an underpass connects to Terry Hershey Park and continues to Beltway 8 in Houston.
Most of the attractions are located on Westheimer Parkway, a major thoroughfare in the park. In addition, the park hosts a large group of soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, a shooting range, model aircraft flying fields, and numerous pavilions, playgrounds, ponds, and jogging trails.
George Bush Park is an attraction and nature reserve for Buffalo Bayou, a primary water source in the park. It is inside the Barker Reservoir, which is usually dry but is subject to routine flooding and closure during high rainfall. Barker Reservoir protects Houston from flooding.
The park also abuts Fort Bend County's Freedom Park, which has several baseball fields and a multi-use area often utilized as a practice field for local soccer teams.
