YOKOSUKA, Japan – Katy ISD graduate Christopher Bauer says his time at Taylor High School helped prepare him for his successful career in the Navy.
"I had great coaches, mentors, and teachers in football and wrestling that I will never forget," said Bauer.
Bauer joined the Navy following graduation from Taylor in 2015. Stationed at Yokosuka, Japan, he is part of Commander, Submarine Group 7 (CSG 7).
Bauer attended Navy specialized schools at Submarine Base New London. Then he traveled to ports in Kittery, Maine, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was transferred to Japan in December 2020.
"I joined the Navy to see the world and gain leadership experience in challenging environments," said Bauer. "I enjoy being stationed in Japan and experiencing the culture along with traveling the country and seeing the attractions."
Bauer credits Taylor's coaches and mentors with teaching him the importance of resilience and persistence.
This perseverance helped Bauer as he made vital repairs to the Springfield, which allowed the submarine to complete a shipyard maintenance period. Bauer would later be awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal for the work performed on the Springfield.
"Serving in the Navy means unmatchable camaraderie and bonds you make with all different people, of all different backgrounds, with the common goal to serve and protect our fellow shipmates and fellow Americans," he said.
