6th Annual BBQ Cook-Off to Benefit Make A Wish

Alyssa, 7, suffers from Leukemia. Her wish was to meet Selena Gomez. She did and had a wonderful visit in 2015.

HEMPSTEAD, Texas (Covering Katy News) –  Friends for Wishes is holding its Annual Barbecue Cook-Off at the Waller County Fair Grounds on April 26 and 27 to raise money to help children with critical illnesses Make-A-Wish and have it granted. The organization has granted dozens of wishes since it began in 2013.

Friends for Wishes has helped more than 55 children with critical medical conditions forget about their illness for a day and give them the emotional and physical lift they need.

“We have given Make-A-Wish a little over $500,000,” said a statement from the organization.

The BBQ Cook-Off event will not only raise money for the Friends for Wishes, it’ll also be fun for the whole family.

On Saturday, April 27 there will be a Kids Zone sponsored by Smith Ranch Katy.

There will be a bounce house, pony rides and an obstacle course. Kids will also enjoy snow-cones, popcorn and face painting.

Melody, 3, suffers from Neoplasms. Her wish was to have Country Music Singer Cody Johnson sing to her. In December of 2017, she laid in her daddy’s lap and tapped her foot while Cody sang to her. He brought her a t-shirt that said CoJo’s Perfect Melody.
A group of $500 donors sponsored her wish.

The BBQ Cook-off weekend will include a Kids Que where children and young adults ages 5-17 compete in their own BBQ Cook-off.

Awards will be given out to the Cook-off winners and the public is welcome to come out and meet some of the children who have been granted wishes over the last few years.

The fairgrounds are located at 22000 Fairground Rd, Hempstead, TX, 77445.

The event is an International Barbecue Cookers Association sanction event. The payout is $12,500. Click to register now.

There will be live and silent auctions. All money raised goes to grant wishes to children with critical illnesses at Make-A-Wish. For more information go to: www.friendsforwishes.org.
