Katy, Taylor, and Tompkins Continue Playoff Quest This Weekend

KATY (Covering Katy News)—One might say that the Katy and Taylor football teams will be shopping for wins on Black Friday as the high school football playoffs continue.

The third Katy ISD team, Tompkins, will be shopping for its win on Saturday.

Jersey Village Falcons vs. Katy Tigers

When: 1 p.m. Friday

Where: Legacy Stadium

Briefly: Coach David Snokhous’s Falcons are 10-1 and defeated Chavez, 56-12, in the bi-district round. The Tigers are also 10-1, and defeated Fort Bend Travis, 52-7, in coach Gary Joseph’s 200th victory as Katy head coach. Both teams are on hot streaks, having won 10 consecutive games after dropping their respective season openers.

The winner faces the winner of the North Shore-Dickinson game, which is set for Friday afternoon at Galena Park ISD Stadium.

Cypress Creek Cougars vs. Taylor Mustangs

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Legacy Stadium

Briefly: After starting 0-4, coach Greg McCaig’s Cougars have hit their stride. They are 6-5 and defeated Heights, 34-7, in the bi-district round. The Mustangs, under first-year coach Chad Simmons, are also 6-5, and defeated Fort Bend Dulles, 28-13.

The winner faces the winner of the Summer Creek-Clear Lake game, which is set for Saturday afternoon at NRG Stadium.

Tompkins Falcons vs. Cypress Falls Eagles

When: 1 p.m. Saturday

Where: Ken Pridgeon Stadium

Briefly: Coach Todd McVey’s Falcons continue to impress in their first-ever winning season. They are 9-2 and defeated Fort Bend Elkins, 35-20, in the bi-district round. Coach Chris Brister’s Eagles, also 9-2, defeated Westside 40-14.

The winner faces the winner of the West Brook-Strake Jesuit game, which is set for Friday at Clyde Abshier Stadium.
