North Shore Mustangs vs. Katy Tigers

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: NRG Stadium

Briefly: Some local fans might think of this as the “real” state title game. Both programs are perennial powers and met in the playoffs last season, which Katy won, 31-3, in the quarterfinal round. In 2016, North Shore defeated the Tigers in the regional round.

The teams have already met this season. North Shore’s 35-21 victory, in the August 31 season opener, is the only loss in Katy’s 11-1 record. The Mustangs, meanwhile, enter the game at 12-0.

Last week, Katy defeated Jersey Village, 58-14. North Shore defeated Dickinson, 65-21.

The North Shore-Katy winner will play the winner of the Cy Fair-Atascocita game, which is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at NRG Stadium.

Beaumont West Brook Bruins vs. Tompkins Falcons

When: 6 p.m. Saturday

Where: NRG Stadium

Briefly: Both teams are 10-2, and have taken different paths to reach this point.

Tompkins is enjoying its first winning and first playoff season in school history. West Brook, meanwhile, has had winning records in five of its last six seasons. Last year’s Bruins team made it to the playoffs, losing in the bi-district round.

Last week, Tompkins came from behind to defeat Cy Falls, 31-21. West Brook defeat Strake Jesuit, 54-43.

The West Brook-Tompkins winner will play the winner of the Cypress Creek-Summer Creek game, which is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Rice Stadium.
