Retired Business Owner, Army Veteran and Community Volunteer Receives AAPI Community Support

Fort Bend County (Covering Katy News) – The Houston 80-20 Asian-American Political Action Committee has endorsed Democrat Meghan Scoggins in the Texas State House of Representatives District 28 race.

Houston 8020 was formed to encourage Asian Americans to vote as a bloc and to promote active participation in the political process.

“This district is one of the most diverse in the country, with a rapidly expanding Asian American population. I am honored that the Asian American community feels that I will represent them and their unique needs well in the Texas Legislature. They are an integral part of Fort Bend County.  I look forward to serving them well.”

The Scoggins for Texas House campaign has seen an overwhelming amount of support from the AAPI community, including many volunteers. With Mandarin being the 3 most common spoken language in the district, the campaign has translated many of their materials and position statements into Mandarin. They also have ongoing volunteer-run phone banks in Mandarin, Vietnamese, Gujarati and Hindi.

An event honoring all recipients of the endorsement will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Raindrop Turkish House.

Scoggins is running aginst incumbent Republican John Zerwas.
