KATY (Covering Katy News) – Cinco Charities’ Ballard House is receiving a whopping $45,520 in funding from the 2018 Fall and Spring Sip N Strolls and the raffle of a vintage Ford Mustang. On Tuesday night, organizers held a celebration at the PGA Tour Superstore in Katy and provided a big check to the Ballard House.
The Ballard House is a home-away-from-home for patients who visit the Katy area for treatment of terminal illnesses. It’s located on South Mason Road next to Creech Elementary School, not far from the Westpark Tollway.
“Moving forward this helps with our growth of adding 16 rooms and adding a host couple to live on site,” said Ballard House executive director Kathy Alt.
The Fall Sip N Stroll sold out, raising more than $27,000. It was the first time the event has ever sold out.

“Our costs to house someone is $27 per night. So that’s over 1,000 nights for families,” Alt said. “It really saves lives because people can pursue treatment when they might not have been able to if they didn’t have a place to stay.”
The Spring Sip N Stroll raised $12,182. The total revenue for the year would likely have been more, but the Spring Sip N Stoll was very cold.
“A high of 36, windchill of about 22, people still came out and held their wine with gloves,” Alt said. “In the fall, the weather was fabulous,” she added.
Alt also says the community support for the fall event was exceptional. Additionally, they had a vintage Mustang donated for a raffle that raised more than $5,000.
To date, all of the Sip N Stroll events over the years have generated $280,000, which is enough to fund 10,370 free rooms for people undergoing treatment for serious medical conditions.
