KATY (Covering Katy News) – The body of a 20- to 30-year-old woman was discovered shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11 at The Grand Apartments at LaCenterra.
“It’s an apparent suicide,” said Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chad Norvell, who spoke to Covering Katy News at the scene.
“The call came in at 2:15 p.m.,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bob Haenel told Covering Katy. “She was 20 to 30 years old,” Haenel added.
During the 3 p.m. hour, the sheriff’s office posted on its Facebook page that there was a fatality on Commercial Center Boulevard. The Grand is located at 2727 Commercial Center Boulevard in Katy.

“We posted that information because we were getting so many calls asking what happened,” Norvell said.
“The incident near The Grand – La Centerra is an apparent suicide,” said a later post from the Sheriff’s Office. “This is not something we would normally share on social media, but because of the public exposure, we want to ensure you’re aware the area is safe. Nothing further will be released.”
Typically, Covering Katy does not report on suicides, but given that this happened in a public place where many people saw the law enforcement activity, we have decided to publish basic information on the case. We will not be seeking nor will we publish the identity of the victim.
The woman’s body was found in front of The Grand’s parking garage entrance, which is near several shops at LaCenterra. It was not immediately in view of most members of the public who were shopping or going to the movies at the nearby Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at LaCenterra. Deputies also positioned their vehicles to block direct view of the scene and covered the body with a sheet.
Deputies from Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Constable Wayne Thompson’s office also responded. The Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
