KATY (Covering Katy News) – Nineteen-year-old Michael Fibich of Katy hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, from Georgia to Maine this summer. He completed the 2,190 miles in 3 months time. The Appalachian Trail runs from  Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.

“Ordinarily, it takes five to seven months to accomplish this, and only one out of four people who attempt it, actually complete it,” said his mother Sharon Fibich. “It is more of a mental challenge than even a physical challenge. His determination, grit, and perseverance in this endeavor carried him thru,” she added.

Michael is a Sophomore at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas where he is on a pre-med track.

“His love of hiking came from scouting and his many adventures at Philmont Scout Ranch,” Sharon said.

He is from Katy, Troop 1103 and originally started with the Boy Scouts in Lake Charles, Louisiana with Troop 107.

Fibich graduated from Seven Lakes High School in 2017.
