HOUSTON (Covering Katy News) – President George H.W. Bush is on his way to Washington for the final time. His body left the Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors on Bering Drive in Houston late Monday morning. As this story is being posted the body is being transported by a plane from the presidential fleet, which was waiting at Ellington Field. Video of the body leaving the funeral home is above. Members of President Bush’s Secret Service detail acted as pallbearers as they walked the casket out of the funeral home to the hearse with American flags on each side of the hood and the presidential seal on the side doors. As the black Cadillac was loaded by the Secret Service, numerous members of the Bush family were on hand to watch.
Bush family members traveled in large black buses, and the Houston Police Department provided an escort to the motorcade, which went directly to Ellington Field. They are scheduled to arrive at Joint Base Andrews at 2:30 p.m. Central time.
Mr. Bush will lie in state beginning at 4 p.m. Central time Monday at the Capitol. His funeral will be held at the Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Central time, and then the 41st president’s body will return to Texas.
He will lie in repose at the church he attended for decades in Houston. He will be buried at his presidential library in College Station.
