HOUSTON (Covering Katy News) – The You First Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity that works to improve the lives and educational opportunities of those affected by traumatic medical events, recently presented Melissa Martinez with the grand prize in its annual raffle – a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara.
Martinez, a speech pathologist from the San Antonio area, was one of five raffle winners. Additional prizes included a $2,000 cruise, a 55” 4K Ultra HD TV, a Weber Genesis II E-310 Grill, and a $500 Visa gift card.
The You First Foundation was founded in 2014 by First Service Credit Union employees to honor Wendy Kwan, a beloved friend, and co-worker who died at the age of 34 from a brain aneurysm while pregnant with her second child. Out of love for Wendy and compassion for her surviving children, the You First Foundation was created to help ease the financial burdens of families impacted by an unexpected and life-altering medical event.
A portion of the over $56,000 raised from the You First Foundation’s 2019 raffle will benefit neurointensive care centers and traumatic brain injury research, while the majority of the proceeds will go directly toward scholarships for young people who have been affected by traumatic medical events.
