NORTHWEST HARRIS COUNTY (Covering Katy News) – One man is dead and another man is charged with drunk-driving and murder following a multi-vehicle crash along Beltway 8 on Sunday afternoon.  It happened in the 8900 block of the West Sam Houston Parkway at West Road road around 1 p.m.

Investigators say that Elmer Quintanilla, 26, his 25-year-old wife and three children ages 13 months, 5 years old and 6 years old were traveling in a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck at a high rate of speed.

“Quintanilla attempted to exit the West Road Toll Plaza, lost control and rear-ended a late model Acura being driven by a white male,” said a statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The Acura rolled, striking a large brick sign, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers in the Acura.

“Quintanilla then struck a female driver who was attempting to exit a private drive of a church on to the feeder,” the statement said.

The female was transported to Cy Fair Hospital in good condition.

Quintanilla’s truck finally stopped after hitting three unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot.

Quintanilla, his wife, and all three children were transported to local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic investigators have determined that Quintanilla was driving while intoxicated and had children under the age of 15 in the vehicle, a felony. He will now be charged with murder because the victim was killed while Quintanilla was in the process of committing another felony.
