KATY (Covering Katy) – The violence never materialized but the Katy Independent School District Police Department paid extra attention to one of Katy’s Junior High Schools after rumors were circulating that there would be a shooting on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018.
Katy ISD spokesperson Maria DePetta confirmed to Covering Katy that the district was aware of the rumors, took precautions and continues to look for the person responsible for the threats being made against Stockdick Junior High.
“The Katy ISD Police monitored it and nothing happened,” DiPetta said. “They are trying to identify the person who is posting the messages, and those who are reposting them,” DiPetta added.
The rumors had been circulating since Monday according to posts by parents on social media. Katy ISD was aware of them and the investigation continues.
Threatening schools is a very serious offense. Students who have made threats against schools in other districts are now facing felony charges.
