KATY (Covering Katy News) – The Katy Independent School District has determined that there is no credible threat to Exley Elementary School after a student from nearby McMeans Junior High School allegedly made comments that created concerns about safety.

“MMJH administration and the Katy ISD Police Department immediately launched an extensive investigation, and after carefully reviewing evidence and interviewing those involved, it was determined that there was no credible evidence of intent, but rather a misguided attempt at humor,” Principal Julie Noedlner wrote in a message emailed to parents on Friday, May 11, 2018.

The comments were made during a discussion between two students according to Noedlner.

Below is a copy of the principal’s message to the parents of Exley Elementary School.

Exley Elementary School and McMcMeans Junior High School are located in Cinco Ranch on Westheimer Parkway, less than a mile apart, between South Fry Road and South Mason Road in Fort Bend County.

Dear Exley Elementary Parents/Guardians and Staff,

The purpose of this message is to notify you that recently a student from our sister school, McMeans Junior High made an inappropriate comment to another student which included mention of our school.

MMJH administration and the Katy ISD Police Department immediately launched an extensive investigation, and after carefully reviewing evidence and interviewing those involved, it was determined that there was no credible evidence of intent, but rather a misguided attempt at humor.

I ask that you use this incident as a teachable moment with your child to help confirm with them the important role they play in keeping our school safe. I would also encourage you to remind your child that we take all reports of inappropriate comments and threats seriously.  As such, students who make threats will be disciplined. I want our parents to know that notification to parents only takes place when there is substantiated evidence of a threat to our students and staff.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
