KATY (Covering Katy News)—The Katy Independent School District Monday night appointed Jimmy Hamon head football coach and campus athletic coordinator at Seven Lakes High School.
Hamon comes to Seven Lakes from Ridge Point High School in the Fort Bend Independent School District, where he has coached since 2012. He coached both football and baseball there.
Ridge Point football coach Brett Sniffin praised Hamon and his hire at Seven Lakes.
“He’s a great guy,” Sniffin said. “He’s very organized. He’s very knowledgeable. He’ll be sorely missed here. It’s a total upgrade for Seven Lakes.”
The Panthers have won their district title the past four seasons. Hamon was an assistant on all those teams, and was defensive coordinator for the last three.
“He manages his defensive staff well,” Sniffin said. “He came up with great game plans against various schools. The kids ran to the ball well and they knew their fundamentals.”
Sniffin said the football system at Ridge Point was simple but the kids play fast.
“He did a great job implementing that each and every week,” Sniffin said.
Sniffin said Hamon also served as the junior varsity baseball coach at Ridge Point.
Hamon graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena and continued his studies at Alvin Community College and Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, where he earned his degree in Education and played on the baseball team.
He returned to Sam Rayburn High School to begin his coaching and teaching career in 2004. He has taught Algebra II, Calculus, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus.
Hamon succeeds Lydell Wilson, who was reassigned to Paetow High School as a teacher/coach earlier this month.
Wilson coached the Spartans from 2012-17. Last year’s squad finished with a 4-6 record. His overall record was 30-32, with both the 2012 and 2014 teams making the bi-district round of the playoffs.
