KATY (Covering Katy News) – The line of Houston Astros fans seeking Jose Altuve’s autograph wraps completely around the Academy store on I-10 at the Grand Parkway as fans await a 5:30 p.m. Monday autograph session with newly crowned American League MVP Jose Altuve.
The first people in line got there very early Sunday morning.
“We got here at 12:08 Sunday morning and after all is said and done we will have been here for 29-and-a-half hours,” said Astros fan Danielle Donovan.
People came with tents, blankets, food, and games to help them pass the time, stay warm and make it through until they get the Astro’s slugger’s autograph. The biggest complaint was that it was a cold night.
“It’s been really cold but we’ve made a lot of friends along the way so that’s good,” Donovan said.
“We’ve been throwing the football around just to keep warm,” said Astros fan Bella Moreno.
Academy has become so accustomed to people lining up for autographs and championship merchandise that there is a portable toilet by the front door.
Astros fans pitched tents and huddled under blankets in advance of Altuve’s appearance. Nearly 160 people had claimed their spots on the sidewalk around the building by closing time, but an hour later, the line extended behind the store.
We found people from Austin, and Pearland in line on Monday morning.
