HARRIS COUNTY (Covering Katy News) – Harris County residents should expect heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding over the next few days as a weather system developing over Southeast Texas moves across the area this week. The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for the region earlier today extending through Saturday evening May 11, 2019.
Heavy rainfall is expected to be widespread across the county averaging between 5-8 inches with isolated higher amounts. The Harris County Flood Control District’s Flood Operations Team is continuing to monitor rainfall trends and has taken the following steps in advance of the storm:
Like What You're Reading?
– Calibrated stage gages
– Removed large construction equipment from bayous and channels
– Opened the Clear Creek outlet gates yesterday to expedite the flow of stormwater run-off out of Clear Creek
At this time the expected amounts of rainfall will likely cause street flooding along with some bayou and creek flooding due to already saturated grounds from the previous days of rainfall. Updates will be issued as needed.
