“Day of Fun” Planned for Men Who Helped Deputy

KATY (Covering Fort Bend) – Two Fort Bend County residents and their families will enjoy a special “day of fun” at the Katy Main Event location after helping a Fort Bend County deputy.

Last month, a Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office deputy made a traffic stop and instructed the driver to get out of the vehicle. The suspect fought back as the deputy began to handcuff him and knocked both of them to the ground. Danny Thurman and Michael Martin, who had been watching the event unfold from an apartment complex, came to the deputy’s aid. The two men ran and scaled a fence to get to the scene. They helped the deputy until more Sheriff’s Office units arrived.

“Without regard to their own personal safety, these two men took it upon themselves to act. In a split second, they decided to intervene and protect our deputy,” Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said. “When Main Event asked us who in the community deserves a day of fun, these two men immediately came to mind.”

Thurman and Martin, along with their families, will receive a VIP experience at Main Event’s Katy center on Friday, Oct. 7, complete with a ride to and from the center in a luxury vehicle. They will enjoy Main Event’s video games, unlimited bowling, laser tag, billiards and gravity ropes, as well as dinner.

“At Main Event, we believe that everyone, regardless of age, should have fun in their life and regularly escape from the daily grind,” Main Event Katy General Manager Jimmy Byerly said. “We are inspired by what these two men did to help an officer and truly honored to help them and their families head for fun at Main Event and enjoy all facets of our Eat.Bowl.Play experience. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate National Head for FUNday than by rewarding such deserving citizens from our community.”
