KATY (Covering Katy News) – Sabic, one of the world’s largest chemical manufacturing companies still plans to build a regional headquarters in Katy even if Saudi Aramco moves forward with purchasing a large stake in the company.
The proposed sale is expected to set consolidation into motion but a spokesperson for Sabic tells Covering Katy News that their Katy plans will not change.
“We are proceeding with the project as planned,” wrote Sabic’s Mary Jane Mudd. No further details were provided.
The proposed Americas Region Head Office would include an innovation center and administrative offices with capacity for approximately 1,000 professionals.
Several months ago Sabic made headlines when it set up temporary domed buildings on Franz Road along the Grand Parkway. The structures were mysterious in that neighbors were not initially informed about their purpose. The structures were temporary and were being utilized for an exhibition. Informed of the wild speculation about the buildings, Sabic went on an information campaign to let neighbors know the purpose of the buildings.
SABIC is an international chemical company headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In 2015 it moved its operations in Massachusetts to Houston.
SABIC manufactures chemicals, high-performance plastics, agri-nutrients, and metals. It has more than 35,000 employees worldwide and operates in more than 50 countries.
