KATY/HARRIS COUNTY (Covering Katy News) – A dog saved the life of its owner early Wednesday morning according the the Harris County Emergency Services District 48 Fire Department. The house fire was in the Westland Creek Village subdivision which is near North Mason Road and Morton Road.  It was reported at 3:20 a.m.

“The homeowner was woken from a deep sleep by her dog Marley,” said a statement from the ESD 48 Fire Department.

The woman got both of her dogs out of the house and then called 911.

“Marley is truly a hero,” the ESD 48 FD statement also said.

The resident had recently moved into the house and it was unclear whether all of the smoke alarms were working according to the fire department.

HCESD 48 offers a free home safety survey that you can schedule through their website hcesd48.org. The survey addresses a number of fire safety hazards that firefighters routinely find.

“If you invite us out to your home, we check your smoke alarms and make sure they are in the right place and are functioning properly as part of our survey. We review over 40 safety hazards and will provide you with a list of recommendations on how to correct them however since this is not a inspection we can not and do not enforce any fire code,” the statement said.
