KATY (Covering Katy News) – The food and drinks just kept coming at Covering Katy’s first thank you party for its subscribers. It was held Tuesday night at the all-new Outback Steakhouse, 24600 Katy Freeway near Dick’s Sports.
It’s been about a year since Covering Katy started its subscription option to help fund a local news effort that’s competing against some well-funded competitors like the Hearst newspapers.
“Our sponsors have been wonderful, and in total, our subscribers are our biggest sponsor,” said Covering Katy publisher Dennis Spellman. “We just wanted a low key gathering with lots of great food to meet the people who keep us in business. It was fun to put a face to the names that I see on our subscription roll,” Spellman said.”
Covering Katy and the Outback gave away three gift baskets and ten $50 Outback gift certificates. Attendees also received discounts on their next Outback visit. Covering Katy is also working on additional fun and free events for its subscribers in 2019.

“We’ve been talking with the Skeeters about having a Covering Katy night at the ballpark this summer and the Outback wants to host another party,” Spellman said. “Outback Owner Michelle Tulsain and her staff did an awesome job with the party,” he said. “The food was outstanding and everyone had a good time,” he added.
State Representative Michael Schofield also stopped by and talked with our staff and readers.
