KATY (Covering Katy News) – In the days before a Harris County bond election, Mike Siegel, Democratic Nominee for the Tenth Congressional District of Texas, will host a town hall meeting to discuss strategies to protect the county from flooding. Siegel’s general election opponent is incumbent Republican Rep. Michael McCaul.
The gathering will happen on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Noah’s Events, 21402 Merchant’s Way Katy, TX 77449.
Siegel is calling for a national flood control strategy and massive infrastructure investments to protect the region from major flood events.
“This campaign is about demonstrating leadership,” Siegel said. “Big problems require big solutions. In Harris County, especially after Hurricane Harvey, flood control is the biggest problem we face. There is no national flood control strategy.”

Democratic leaders at the town hall meeting will include Democratic gubernatorial nominee Lupe Valdez; State Senator and Congressional nominee Sylvia Garcia; Harris County Commissioner candidate Penny Shaw; and Texas House District 132 nominee Gina Calanni.
“It is time for our state and federal governments to commit the resources the Gulf Coast needs to appropriately prepare for the weather of the future, and it will take a team of dedicated advocates to get us there,” said Valdez. “I look forward to joining a panel of hopeful public servants ready to prioritize the safety of Texas residents.”
Siegel also says he’s committed to addressing flood events with proactive rather than reactive solutions.
