KATY, Texas (Covering Katy News) – The official dedication of Legacy Stadium and Mike Johnston Field will take place Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 at 7 p.m.
The facility will be the district’s second football stadium. Katy ISD’s eight high school football teams will play at Rhodes Stadium and Legacy Stadium when the season kicks off later this month.
Parents, students, staff and other community members are invited to join Katy ISD Superintendent Lance Hindt and the Board of Trustees for the event.
Katy ISD namesakes, those who have schools named after them, and local officials will also participate in the celebration.
The dedication ceremony for the 12,000-seat stadium will include special performances by all high school bands and choir directors.
“The facility will provide students and the community with a state of the art multipurpose second stadium to serve more than 77,000 students, and community members, across the district,” said a statement from Katy ISD. “This year, athletic and fine arts teams from eight high schools will benefit from this new facility,” the statement also said.
Legacy stadium is located at 1830 Katyland Drive, next to Rhodes Stadium.
