Standoff in Katy Ends Peacefully

CITY OF KATY (Covering Katy News) – A standoff at a home in the Lake Crest subdivision of Katy ended peacefully early Tuesday night with no injuries to anyone in the home, or any law enforcement officer.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Thomas Gilliland says deputies came to a house off Porter Road near Franz Road at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to arrest a man who has warrants for several armed robberies of smoke shops in Fort Bend County and Harris County, one on Provincial Boulevard in Katy.

A large military-style armored vehicle was seen moving toward the house during the standoff. Gilliland said it was delivering a battery operated phone that could be used for negotiators to talk with the man. It worked and he eventually came out.

“What made this situation even more precarious was that he had two children inside the house, a one-year-old and a two-year-old,” Gilliland said.

City of Katy Police were also involved in attempting to serve the suspect with a warrant.  Katy ISD police were also on hand and kept the public safely out of the active scene.
