KATY (Covering Katy) – A truck fire caused two lanes of the Katy Freeway westbound feeder road near the Grand Parkway to be shut down for a large part of the afternoon on Wednesday.
The trailer had Walmart markings on it. It caught fire early in the afternoon and it was still on the feeder road when this story was posted at 5 p.m. TranStar said that it happened around 1:50 p.m.
Piles of debris from inside the truck could be seen along the road and a small tractor was moving the burned cargo to the side. It appeared that the truck was being offloaded before being removed from the roadway.
The trailer had damage to its roof.
The Harris County Emergency Services District 48 Fire Department responded to the call.
“Most of what was inside the trailer was Christmas decorations,” said Simon VanDyke of the HCESD 48 FD.
An environmental assessment crew evaluated the scene and found that there was no contamination.
The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
