Commissioner Meyers: Improvements Coming to Cane Island Parkway

KATY (Covering Katy News) – Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers is pushing the Texas Department of Transportation to improve traffic at the intersection of FM 1463 and Cane Island Parkway. He is working with the state to have a right turn lane added.

He’s also pushing for the state to improve traffic where Cane Island Parkway meets I-10.

“We’re trying to work with TxDOT to do two things – include a continuous right turn lane at FM 1463 and Cane Island Parkway and install a signal, at I-10 and Cane Island Parkway so that traffic flows smoother.”

Meyers says he’d like to see a temporary signal constructed immediately with a permanent signal being installed later.

Meyers said he wanted the traffic signal included when the project was originally proposed but TxDOT declined.

TxDOT is in charge of those roadway improvements so Commissioner Meyers has also attempted to speed the process by offering to have Fort Bend County pay the cost of the improvements.

“I came back and offered to pay for both of them,” Meyers said. “We believe we will have the signal in the next few weeks.”

Meyers says expects to eventually have a right turn lane installed at FM 1463 and Cane Island Parkway which will relieve congestion near Firethorne.

The complete discussion with Commissioner Meyers can be heard in the podcast above.
