First Watch Cafe Comes to Katy with Deep Pockets and Upscale Menu

KATY (Covering Katy News) – First Watch the Daytime Cafe has leased 3,500 square feet of retail space in Grand Crossing, located at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Grand Parkway/TX 99 in Katy.  They leased the land from Newquest Properties.  In 2016 the restaurant chain reportedly made $243 million in revenue.

First Watch offers menu items such as Avocado Toast, Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, Farm Stand Breakfast Tacos, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, and a Fresh Juice Bar. First Watch restaurants are named for the nautical terminology that refers to the first shift of the day.

Private equity firm Advent International bought a majority stake in First Watch in 2017. It also owns The Egg & I, many of which have converted to Daytime Cafes following the purchase. Another restaurant under the company’s umbrella is The Good Egg which is based in Arizona.

The leadership of Daytime Cafe founded First Watch after departing the LePeep restaurant chain. LePeep has locations in Houston. First Watch is based in University Park, FL and has 6,000 employees and more than 200 locations across 26 states.

According to published reports, Houston based Mac Haik Enterprises, in 2016, agreed to an exclusive franchise development agreement with First Watch to develop 18 restaurants in Southeastern Texas and Southwestern Louisiana. The Katy location is part of that development plan.

It sources coffee from Huila, Colombia from a group of women living in Colombia. First Watch chose to change their coffee source because they want to, “Support these hard-working women and their families in Huila in 2018.”

First Watch restaurants are only open between 7am-2:30pm.
