KATY, Texas (Covering Katy) – Fort Bend County Constable Wayne Thompson says his office is fostering cooperation between the Katy Independent School District, the Fort Bend Independent School District, and the Lamar Consolidated School District to help keep local children and teens safe and secure.
“During this past school semester, Deputy Constable Pedro Soto was active in representing our department by visiting area schools on a regular basis, meeting school staff and sharing information with school police personnel and School Resource Officers,” Thompson said. “He met with each campus School Resource Officer and the Campus Administration staff, advising them that our department would like to become an extra resource by offering more police presence and walking the campus at peak times with their Campus Officer,” Thompson added.
Constable Thompson hopes that this sharing of information and open line of communication has led to a safer school environment and a safer community.
As the next school year approaches, Thompson promises that Deputy Soto will be in constant communication with the school districts to build upon the progress already made.
“Students and staff have a right to feel safe and secure within the school environment and this communication and cooperation ensures that our most precious commodity, our children, remain safe and secure,” Thompson said.
