Katy ISD’s Old Town Bistro is a Hidden Gem that Everyone Should Try

KATY (Covering Katy News) – If you are looking for a great place for breakfast and lunch in Katy, someplace that you’ve never been before, then it is time to check out Old Town Bistro at the Miller Career Center, 1734 Katyland Drive in Katy.

High school students who are studying food service and culinary arts make and serve the meals to customers who are seated at tables covered with white tablecloths.

When we visited for breakfast on Wednesday morning, the red cloth napkins were folded like roses in anticipation of Valentine’s Day. It was a nice touch.

I had the Barbeque Benedict, which was a tasty toasted biscuit topped with poached eggs, diced brisket and smoky hollandaise sauce with a cup of fresh fruit. The presentation was like something at you’d expect at a fine dining establishment.

My guest dined on the Avocado Toast, which consisted of two poached eggs placed atop fresh pumpernickel bread covered with tomato and an avocado spread. He loved it.

Each day students create one item that is not on the menu. Wednesday morning the students made a delicious Apple Danish for their breakfast customers. My guest ordered the Danish, and it was gone faster than I could take a photo.

The students and staff clearly appreciated having us as customers. They could not have been more delightful. The coffee kept coming and it was very good.

Old Town Bistro is a place that I can recommend and a place to return frequently.

They are open for business on Wednesdays and Thursdays while school is in session. Breakfast is served from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The bistro is only open when school is in session. They also close when the kids are taking part in district-wide testing and other special events, so it’s a good idea to be on their mailing list to keep up with what’s going on. Just email Ruth Delaney to be placed on the email distribution list. RuthEDelaney@KatyISD.org.

Reservations are appreciated but not required. The students also enjoy preparing your orders for pick-up too.

See their breakfast and lunch menus below.
