KATY (Covering Katy News) – Katy ISD’s unique salute to its teachers of the year is held annually at Katy Heritage Park and this year the event took place on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Each year the school district lays a brick with the name of the teacher of the year from each of its 67 schools.
There are now hundreds of bricks at the park that are dedicated to past and present Katy ISD teachers who have devoted countless hours towards the education of their students.
This week the names of last year’s teachers of the year were unveiled.
“We cannot be the school district we are today without quality teachers in every classroom,” said Acting Superintendent Ken Gregorski. “Our teachers put smiles on our students every day and these bricks are only a small token of appreciation for everything they do,” added Gregorski.
Katy ISD has some of the best teachers in the country and with these commemorative bricks, their legacy will be etched in the history of the District as well as in the community. This year, as Katy ISD, celebrates its 100th anniversary.
“Katy ISD thanks Venus Construction and Country Park Portraits for hosting this event, and Katy Heritage Society for featuring these bricks in the park as a part of Katy’s history,” said a statement from the school district.
During the ceremony, the Katy High School Choir provided entertainment with several singing performances.
