Katy ISD Destination Imagination Teams Head to Global Competition

Griffin Elementary – Game for Fame

KATY (Covering Katy News) –  Fifteen Katy Independent School District Destination Imagination Teams headed to the 2019 Texas DI State Tournament, recently held in Corpus Christi, Texas, and five teams have advanced to the Global Competition in Kansas City, Missouri on May 22-26.

The following teams represented Katy ISD at the state tournament:

  • Alexander Elementary – Bird Brains
  • Alexander Elementary – Exploding Tacos
  • Griffin Elementary – Game for Fame
  • Holland Elementary – RESPR
  • Shafer Elementary – Unknown Space Scientists
  • Williams Elementary – Blades
  • Winborn Elementary – Nerd Herd
  • Wolman Elementary – The Liberties
  • Beckendorff Junior High – Houston, We have a Problem
  • McMeans Junior High – It’s Classified
  • Stockdick Junior High & Beckendorff Junior High – Royal Challengers
  • WoodCreek Junior High & Katy Junior High – Chicks with Kicks
  • Seven Lakes High School & Katy High School – 24/7 Silly
  • Seven Lakes High School – RAD DI Orton
  • Seven Lakes High School – 28 Eyes

Advancing to Global Competition are:

  • Seven Lakes High School – 28 Eyes
  • McMeans Junior High – It’s Classified
  • Stockdick Junior High & Beckendorff Junior High – Royal Challengers
  • Griffin Elementary – Game for Fame
  • Shafer Elementary – Unknown Space Scientists

The 28 Eyes Team from Seven Lakes High School finished first in the state and was awarded a DaVinci Award for Outstanding Design.  The Game for Fame Team from Griffin Elementary received first place in their category and were awarded a Renaissance Award for Outstanding Creativity.  The Unknown Space Scientist Team from Shafer Elementary finished third, the Stockdick Junior High & Beckendorff Junior High the Royal Challengers Team finished fifth and the McMeans Junior High It’s Classified Team finished six.\

Destination Imagination is a school-based program devoted to helping students gain practical life skills through interesting, entertaining and mind-boggling challenges.  The program is created and guided by parents, educators and community volunteers who support the art and skill of creative problem solving.  DI seeks to develop the creativity, innovation and imagination of students while working as team members to collaborate, stay within a budget and meet deadlines.
