KATY (Covering Katy News) – Dr. Zachary Hodges, Houston Community College-Northwest president, was honored by Robert Westheimer, founder and chairman of Newspring at the annual Newspring Luncheon themed, “Architects of the Future,” on Sept.18.
Of the four “Architects” honored, Westheimer dubbed Hodges “the Animator” because his vision and support empowers others to bring to life ideas and possibilities that change lives and deliver positive economic impact to the community.
An architect is someone who shapes a space for others. As an “architect,” Hodges has built a framework to encourage, advise and teach others for success.
The 11-year alliance between HCC and Newspring created and launched the annual HCC/Newspring Business Plan Competition (BPC) that delivers mentoring and training to 225 teams of entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.

“The HCC/Newspring Business Plan competition creates access and opportunity in a unique and powerful venue of entrepreneurs building economic development and making dreams come true,” said Hodges.
Hodges’ leadership, along with the BPC, led to the opening of HCC’s first Center for Entrepreneurship, which has since spurred two additional centers on HCC campuses in southwest and southeast Houston.
Newspring is a faith-based community initiative dedicated to inspiring at-risk populations in Spring Branch to define and achieve a bright future.
