KATY (Covering Katy News) – Cinco Ranch High School Senior Matthew Pharis will be attending the United States Military Academy at West Point in the fall of 2019. He was appointed by Senator Ted Cruz on January 18, 2019.
While at Cinco Ranch Matthew participated all four years on the tennis team, was team captain all 4 years, served as class president both Junior and Senior year, and is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Young Men’s Service League-Katy Chapter.
“The cadets at West Point all have an incredible sense of purpose, a commitment to selfless service, a desire to become more, and fortitude to overcome any obstacle put in their path,” Pharis said. “Thriving in a challenging environment is core to who I am; it takes grit to succeed at a school like West Point. I would like the chance to continue to challenge myself, lead others, and further develop my character. I want the opportunity to earn and embody the values of Duty, Honor, Country and to model the characteristics required in order to become successful at West Point, as well as an officer in the United States Army.”
The U.S. Military Academy at West Point’s mission is “to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army.
