KATY/HARRIS COUNTY (Covering Katy News) – A Toyota RAV4 was recently stolen from a driveway on Campfield Court off North Fry Road in the Westfield subdivision and then recovered the same day thanks to her observant son. The theft happened on the morning of Sunday, June 2. The car was recovered the same afternoon.
The victim’s adult son saw his mother’s stolen car pass by him while driving near Fry Road and Park Row. He notified Precinct 5 deputies and followed the SUV to the 200 block of Carey Ridge Court which is a neighborhood off Greenhouse Road, a short distance south of the Katy Freeway. The two suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot.
“Precinct 5 deputies set a perimeter around the area and later spotted the driver walking along a nearby bayou,” said a statement from Constable Ted Heap’s office. “After a brief chase, the 16-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest. He was transported and released to the custody of the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department.”
