KATY/HARRIS COUNTY –  Precinct 5 Constable Ted Heap is asking for your help locating the driver of a red Toyota Highlander, who he says was acting suspiciously in Katy Park on Saturday morning.  The park is located in the 24900 block of Morton Road.

“At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, a 10-year-old girl was approached in the parking lot by a man offering to help get a bug off her shirt,” said a statement from Heap’s office. “When she avoided him, the man told her repeatedly that he wasn’t going to hurt her. The girl’s father saw the encounter and the suspect returned to a red Toyota Highlander parked nearby, and left the parking lot.”

Hundreds of boys and girls play organized soccer at Katy park on Saturdays in April. Boys and girls were just arriving for the early games at the time of this incident. The parking lot becomes very busy at that time with arriving cars and parents who are are busy shepherding their kids, equipment and lawn chairs to   numerous soccer fields. It could easily become a time when a parent with multiple children could take his or her eyes off a child for just a short moment to attend to other family member’s needs.

“The suspect was heard repeating that he didn’t do anything wrong. The child’s father was able to get a picture of the SUV as it left the parking lot,” the Precinct 5 statement said.

Suspect’s Car Description

Upon further investigation, however, Precinct 5 deputies discovered the license plate on the suspect’s vehicle did not match the vehicle to which it belonged. The vehicle, however, does have some distinguishing characteristics, including a “Who Dat” sticker in the upper middle portion of the rear window, and a bike rack is attached to the tow hitch.
