KATY (Covering Katy News) – An eight-month-old baby girl is ok after her mother left her in a car while shopping at a store in Katy on Wednesday. The mother, Ayesha Farooq, 29, has been charged with abandoning or endangering a child, a second-degree felony.

“A citizen called and said the baby had been in the car for about 20 minutes,” said Lt. Veronica Martin of the Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office.

The baby was found in a car at the Hobby Lobby store on South Fry Road near the Grand Parkway. Constables received the call at 12:45 p.m. on May 16, 2018.

The citizen not only called 911 and also went inside the Hobby Lobby store and had an announcement made asking the owner of the car to come outside.

“She was drenched with sweat but EMS checked her out and she was ok,” Lt. Martin said.  “The doors to the car were unlocked,” she added.

Prior to being arrested, the mother provided inconsistent reasons for the baby being left in the car according to Martin.

The child was released to the custody of its father. Texas Child Protective Services is now involved in the case.
