Alamo Drafthouse to Celebrate Galentine’s Day

KATY (Covering Katy News) – There is no Katy area movie theater that is better at making movies on the bigscreen fun. Hands down, the Alamo Drafthouse is on its game when it comes to relating to its audience.

Now the LaCenterra theater is proclaiming it’s love for “Galentine’s Day.”

“Our favorite non-official holiday!” exclaims a message sent to Covering Katy News.

So, what the heck is Galentine’s Day?

“It’s only the best day of the year!” is the Alamo’s response.

“Ten years ago we didn’t even have Galentine’s Day until Leslie Knope played by our favorite funny lady, Amy Poehler, coined the term on an episode of Parks And Recreations and the rest was history. Quite simply, it’s a celebration of friends that we love,” the Alamo message says.

The Alamo plans to leave romance and candles for the couples on February 14, but on February 13th Galentine’s Day will be all about fun.

Below are their movies that will be shown leading up to and on Feb. 13 – Galentine’s Day. The description is in their words.

Another great flick to watch with your gals and pals! This film was based on Nia Vardalos’ one-woman stage play she wrote and starred in about falling in love with a non-Greek man….and how her family took it. The movie was such a hit it spawned a sequel and a television series. It was also nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Academy Award. Opa!

Catch the incomparable Audrey Hepburn in this classic romantic comedy, as a sheltered princess who falls in love with an American journalist played by the talented Gregory Peck. This was Audrey Hepburn’s first lead role in a feature film and she won an Oscar for her stunning performance.

Sunday, Feb. 24th at 5:30 PM

We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the rom-com of all rom-coms.

It’s the tale of two people – Sally (Meg Ryan) and Harry (Billy Crystal) – who explore whether or not women and men can be *just* friends and all the complications that come with that.

It’s a great film that one has to literally restrain themselves from quoting, for instance –

“I’ll have what she’s having,” was voted one of TIME Magazine’s top ten quotes of 1989. That line was included in the same list with a line from the Dalai Lama’s Noble Peace Prize acceptance speech and a quote from President George H.W. Bush’s inauguration.

Tickets here.

Cheers to friendship!
