KATY (Covering Katy News) – The bungled sale of hydroponic marijuana was what lead to a recent shooting in the parking lot of the HEB grocery store on South Mason Road at Highland Knolls Boulevard in Katy. Now there have been several big busts of hydroponic marijuana growing operations in Harris and Fort Bend County.

Hydroponic marijuana is grown in climate controlled indoor conditions. Experts say it has a slightly different look than when it’s raised in the wild and pot smokers debate whether it’s more potent than when it’s grown in the wild.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office says the marijuana recovered in the recent bust has a street value of $2.3 million.

An investigation that lasted for several months resulted in the recent busts at four different locations by the Fort Bend County Narcotics Task Force.

The grow houses are located in the 600 block of Fair Oaks Dr., in the Stafford area; the 15000 block of Val Vista Dr. in the Houston area of Fort Bend County; 7511 Marisol Dr., in the Houston area in Fort Bend County; and the 15000 Block of Sierra Valle Dr. in Harris County.

On Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, search warrants were executed at all four addresses by Task Force Agents, Pct. 5 Harris County Constables and members of the DEA.

Agents located sophisticated indoor marijuana operations being conducted in three of the residences and weapons, currency and cultivated product in the fourth location.

Three people were arrested in Fort Bend County:

Trong Vo, 35, of Houston; charged with Possession of Marijuana, a second-degree felony. James Lai Nguyen, 27, of Houston; charged with Possession of Marijuana, a second-degree felony, and
James Huy Nguyen, 37, of Houston; charged with Possession of Marijuana, a second-degree felony and possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.

Three additional suspects were arrested in Harris County on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
