CITY OF KATY (Covering Katy) – One person is dead and another was taken to the hospital in unknown condition after a two car accident on the Katy Freeway westbound near Pin Oak. The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m.
The victim’s car stalled in a westbound travel lane and was hit from behind by a second vehicle according to Captain Bryon Woytek of the Katy Police Department. The stalled car caught fire. The driver of the stalled car died at the scene. Police did not immediately know the identity of the victim.
There was only one person in the vehicle that struck the victim’s stalled car.
Katy Police shut down the westbound side of the freeway at Pin Oak for several hours to investigate the crash. The resulting traffic poured onto the feeder road and Highway Boulevard in the City of Katy.
Woytek said investigators have not determined if the injured driver will face any citations after hitting the stalled car.
Police have not released the names of the two drivers who were involved in the crash.
