KATY (Katy ISD) – Katy ISD students from Mr. Cornelius Cooley’s Practicum in Architectural Design class took notes, reviewed blueprints, took measurements, snapped photos and asked local business owner, Kevin Franz, many questions during a tour of a shopping center in the Katy.

The commercial property, located at 5315 U.S. Highway 90, is set to undergo exterior renovations and students from the Miller Career & Technology Center will have the opportunity to work with an actual client during the process.

Franz spent more than an hour generating ideas and inspiring students to create a facility encompassed around a detailed vision, which would impact the surrounding communities.

Students were given a budget and other design criteria as part of their participation. Aspects of the students’ work would be submitted and considered for the final renovation process.

This opportunity provided an important learning experience for students.
