The new stretch of road was going to open Saturday December 14th but the recent inclement weather caused TxDOT to delay the opening by a few days.  Still, the opening ceremonies will take place on Saturday December 14th.  A band will provide musical entertainment and there will also be a 5k run and 1k walk benefiting H.E.A.R.T. which provides job training for adults with developmental disabilities.  The party goes from 8 a.m. until noon.

To access the festivities go to the Grand Parkway Kingsland exit and look for the signs.  The party will be held on the Grand Parkway north of I-10 but to access that area you’ll need to used the ramp near Kingsland.

The 15 mile stretch between I-10 and U.S. 290, is the first new segment of the Grand Parkway to open in five years.  When the Grand Parkway is completed it will be a 180 mile Houston outer loop.

Katy motorists may notice that some of the direct connect ramps are not yet completed.  Some of the ramps won’t be ready until April.

To register for the run/walk, go to  the Runner’s High Club webpage or call 713-692-4278.
