Houston (Covering Katy) – A Harris County Grand Jury handed up an indictment against Katy Fire Chief Leslie Marc Jordan, 58, on drug-related charges on Tuesday May 21, 2013.
Sandra Marie Kinney of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office says the indictment accuses Jordan of tampering with evidence and diverting a controlled substance. Specifically, Jordan is accused of taking vials of Valium from Katy Fire Department Ambulances for use by a relative.
Mayor Fabol Hughes was only sworn in to office on Monday night and he says the city is conducting an administrative investigation into the case.
“It is an unfortunate situation, however we are going to allow the criminal case to run its course,” the mayor said in a prepared statement issued to the media.
Warner Preston is serving as the acting fire chief while the investigation continues.
An indictment is not a conviction but an agreement by a group of grand jurors that prosecutors have enough evidence of potential wrongdoing that Jordan can be put on trial.
